I work for American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains as a Ministry Coach. Over the years, I have worked with several churches that have struggled and a few that have closed. I have seen churches that were once strong and vibrant struggle to find a purpose.
The decline of churches is not unique to ABCRM. Many denominations are struggling to help churches. The danger is to look for quick fixes and easy answers. My research indicates that these are tectonic shifts that will not be stopped or reversed by either quick fixes or easy answers. I describe these changes as the Age of Disestablishment.
I work with pastors who are often overwhelmed by the rapid change of the current culture or who get frustrated with the slowness of change. I even work with pastors who feel like giving up.
This project will seek to resources to pastors who are struggling with the disestablishment of their congregation and denominational leaders who are struggling with to help these churches.
A little about me personally.
I live in Falcon Colorado, with my wife Chris and a English Springer Spaniel named Abby.
How do I maintain my own resilience? I confess that I struggle with this. I practice spiritual disciplines, but not very well. I work with a spiritual director who tries to guide me in the long obedience. I walk frequently with Chris and Abby. I try to experiment at work with ways of bringing life and vitality to pastors.
I have worked with pastors in our own Region as well as in Zambia and Mexico.
